We are an exclusive eco destination set in almost 1000 acres of pristine rainforest, enjoying direct access to a wild, palm-fringed beach within the calm waters of Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica. Enveloped by Piedras Blancas National Park and with no roads around us, our boat is the only means of reaching us; our ecolodge is the ultimate getaway to wind down, reconnect with nature and create unforgettable memories.
Only a small fraction of travellers to Costa Rica make their way to the magical Golfo Dulce, identified by National Geographic as one of the ocean’s 20 wildest places. This is truly one of the last remaining frontiers for authentic and inspirational adventure in one of the most biologically intense corners of the planet.
DISCOVER Rain forest Chic
Sustainable and Off-grid Elegance
Amongst this breathtaking wilderness, we have created a simple yet elegant hideaway. From the use of locally fallen and reclaimed hardwoods throughout our structures to the stone sinks in our bathrooms, from the unconfined spaces of our double-height open-air living areas to the freedom of our spring water outdoor showers, we are in total harmony with our surroundings. With just three unique guest Cabinas, the Retreat offers an intimate experience combined with a truly personal service.
Our aim is to preserve and share our pristine rainforest and ocean, some of the most biologically intense ecosystems on earth. Indeed we are off-grid and truly sustainable to our core. We satisfy our entire electricity needs with our carbon-free hydro turbine which is fed by our rainforest springs. The same waters also feed our jungle pool, our plunge pools and outdoor showers before flowing into the wildlife ponds.
relish Food from the heart
Costa Rican Produce, Italian Heritage
Our food is home grown when possible and always made with passion. From our artisanal breads and ice creams to the best cappuccino made with high altitude, micro-roasted Costa Rican coffee, our aim at Golfo Dulce Retreat is to combine real, local flavours with our own Italian heritage.
feel the family soul
Where Dreams Come True
Originally from Italy and after years of working and raising our young family in London, we were ready for a real challenge. Our 'island that never was', accessible only by boat yet enveloped within mainland, turned out to be just perfect. The less well-known Golfo Dulce in the unexplored southern part of Costa Rica had everything we were dreaming of: this tropical fjord is one of the last places in the world where primary rainforests meet wild pristine seas, untouched coastlines and unexplored mangroves.
But we wanted to create more than just elegance within a stunning surrounding - we were looking for authenticity and adventure and a way of enjoying the company of friends and family in a totally relaxed and private setting. This is how Golfo Dulce Retreat came to be.

RETURN TO THE WILD
The Many Shades of Green
Every season brings something special to Golfo Dulce. While most guests choose to visit us during the dryer months of December to March, we find that it is during the Green Season that the rainforest truly comes to life.
Between late April and July, downpours become more frequent. Contrary to what many believe however the rains are usually confined to late afternoons and come after bright, hot, sunny mornings. This is the time of the year when life explodes and one truly experiences the overwhelming grandeur of the tropical rainforest. We reach the pinnacle of wonder in August and September: the Antarctic humpback whales make their yearly pilgrimage to Golfo Dulce and we often find ourselves witnessing nature at its most powerful and in total solitude. This is the time of the year when our hunger for the natural world is truly satisfied and our choice to disconnect and return to the wild is vindicated.
